Tycobrahe Parapedal Original

Here's another version of the Tycobrahe Parapedal, but unlike the previous layout, which is apparently a modified from the stock, we had some people in the forum trace an original one, Ciaran posting the schematic before I finished my trace, found  here. The only thing different is I added the usual input and output pulldown resistors to prevent any popping.

Original Positive Ground Version

Theoretically, here's the layout but changed to more common Negative Ground

SoulSonicFX - Stage Overdrive

A great sounding overdrive by Soulsonic from the FSB forum.
You can find the original thread here.

Madbean Pig Butt

Brian's description:
The PigButt is a modded Op-Amp Muff.
It's a nasty little beast, full of saturated distortion; not too edgy nor too smooth.
It provides a wonderfull "wall of fuzz" like the Big Muff but with a different feel and texture.
The PigButt also features a tone bypass switch for even greater distorted output.

Lovetone Big Cheese

Here is the Lovetone Big Cheese with the OLC Chunky Cheese mod to increase the output volume
Original Infos:
The Big Cheese is a loving homage to the nasty, buzzy yet gorgeous and harmonically rich early fuzz. While having many of the classic characteristics that every fuzz fan will relate to it goes beyond to create an absolutely distinct character of its own. Its innovative and interactive controls can take it from almost "gated" break-up to overkill of shred proportions.
Far from being just a guitar pedal however the Big Cheese™ is eminently useful for seeing to any sound with the temerity to be naff or boring (with particularly amusing consequences in the lower regions). To lovers of that extraordinary spectacle known to some as "furrrzze bass!" it offers terminally thunderous, ripping yet glitch-free and buttock-clenching
mayhem that can only be described as Larry Graham on steroids (as demonstrated to devastating effect by the man himself!).

Ibanez NB-10 Noise Buster

Original info:
Unlike conventional noise gates, the IBANEZ NB 10 Noise Buster is capable of cutting out noise not only while there is no signal flow, but during actual playing as well, thus providing far more effective noise reduction. A FREQUENCY control lets the musician eliminate noise components without impairing the envelope or sustain of the original sound. With the NB10, players are liberated from the adverse influence of stage lighting or single coil pick-ups on their music, and high gain distortion effects can be used without having to worry about noise.

Lastgasp Art Laboratories Rattle Crow Restive Filter

Just saw this schem posted in the forum and thought it looked like a pretty cool effect. The original has a funky LED setup and uses the 3rd pole of the 3PDT to cut the 9V connection to the whole circuit. I have drawn this layout to fit our normal offboard wiring.

Info from manufacturer:

The "RATTLE CROW RESTIVE FILTER" (RC) is an effect pedal in which the filter is affected according to the size of the input.

Characterized by a wild and sorrowful tone.

The RC is a kind of auto wah, but it has hysterical and distorted qualities, a broken auto wah sound.

Tycobrahe Parapedal Modified

I saw a request for this effect, and strangely enough I have been looking at making one of these of awhile. Not a whole lot of info on this out there, but here's what I found on the Chicago Iron site about there clone of it.

The Tycobrahe Parapedal was unique in that it used two pots to create it's own incredible wah type sound. The Parapedal was made in the mid seventies by Tycobrahe Engineering and has become quite a collectors item, that is - if you can find one. They were made in such small quantities that their value has sky-rocketed. Ask any vintage effect dealer for one(if they can find one).

What I do know is that Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi both used one, and that's enough of a reason for me to build one. Just listen to N.I.B. and you'll hear it on Geezer's bass solo intro.

Original was Positive Ground:

I also made the few changes to make it Negative Ground so you can daisy chain it:

Parasit Studio - Into The Unknown

Fredrik (Freppo) from Parasit Studio asked me to draw a vero layout for his latest creation:
Into the Unknown Guitar Synthesizer Deluxe, the big brother of his 0415 Guitar Synth.
If you want more infos on this great pedal or want to buy one of Fredrik's tidy PCBs you can check his website: www.parasitstudio.se

Here is a slightly modified version to stop ticking in bypass mode.
Removed the link between pins 8 & 11 of CD4069 in the top right corner and changed the LFO switch to DPDT On-Off-On.
Connected pin 8 to the new switch lugs 4 & 6 and pin 11 to lug 5.
Thanks to Michael Oriente for his suggested mod!
You can check Comments for more details.

Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh Supreme

Info about original:

The Supreme has all of the sounds and abilities of the Standard and Primitive Pharaohs, but with some very useful additions and a bit of a twist.
In place of the hi/lo switch, the Supreme utilizes a variable pre input control to infinitely adjust the saturation of the front end of the circuit from 1 to 10. In Place of the 3 way diode selector, the Supreme utilizes a 6 way rotary switch to select from the Standard Pharaoh diode settings, plus an additional 3 setting not available on the previous Pharaohs. The Pharaoh supreme allows selection from the following diode settings: Germanium, Asymmetrical Germanium(standard Pharaoh), Silicon (standard Pharaoh), Mosfet,LED and Bypass (standard Pharaoh).

The Pre knob control in addition to the Clip knob, produce an array of sounds and textures that expand the Pharaoh into the ultimate, or Supreme fuzz-stortion that Black Arts has produced.

Layout Updated:

A second layout for this effect, sorta requested, so i made a few modifications to the original layout posted. This once adds another space for the 2nd Ge diode for the asymmetrical clipping, and replaces to last clipping sockets with a single jumper, which should be there anyways. If you want to play with the clipping arrangements instead of the stock, use the clipping board in the first layout.

Zorg Effects - Glorious Basstar

Here is a great bass overdrive by Zorg Effects.
Gabriel, its creator, shared its schematic on FSB for everyone to use.
You can find the original thread here
If you want to have a look to his other projects or buy any of his PCBs, you can check his website: www.zorgeffects.com

30/11/2015 - Layout updated!
Reversed pots orientation.

Original info:

How many times have you plugged your bass into an overdrive pedal and being deceived by the output sound : no more bass, too compressed, loss of precision, not violent enough, too muddy... The glorious basstar can fix all these problems.

The Glorious Basstar is a 3 bands overdrive: it cuts the signal in three frequencies bands : bass/mids/trebles. Each band can then be saturated independently and mixed according to your taste. One can get a very large choices of sounds with a bass guitar. By choosing to saturate one band or another and then mix them with cleans band you can get back your bass, attack, precision and grain. It's the ultimate bass overdrive, but it's all up to you:

By saturating the bass, you'll get acid fuzz distortion.
By saturating the mids, you'll get vintage overdrive tones.
By saturating the trebles, you'll get more modern overdrive.
By adding clean bass, you'll get back subs in your tone.
By adding clean mids, you'll get back bite.
By adding clean trebles, you'll get back attack.
But you can choose to overdrive more or less each band, it's up to you to choose what fits you best...

Lastly, the Glorious Basstar can also be used as a 3 bands equalizer or a booster if you don't overdrive any band.

Here is the original video of his pedals (the Glorious Basstar is at 1:50)

Four Valvecasters in series!

Earthquaker Devices Acapulco Gold

Original infos:
The Acapulco Gold is a dirt-simple power amp distortion device that's based on the vibe of a cranked Sunn Model T.
You know what is awesome?
Simplicity. One button, one knob. How loud would you like it?
Just move the knob.
This is the spirit of rock and roll. Quit turning knobs and play that guitar like you mean it.
While playing, you may want to try ignoring our suggestion and try fiddlin' with your guitar's volume and tone knobs as these can drastically affect the sound of the Acapulco Gold.
The volume knob on your guitar cleans up the pedal nicely, but not too clean.
At minimum guitar volume settings, the Gold imparts a hazy, Nashville-sounding spank to your tone. At just-barely-backed-off, the Gold turns into a raunchy overdrive.
And of course when the guitar volume is completely open, the Gold roars like a Model T on the verge of explosion. It's not quite fuzz, but so close.

This is a very loud pedal.
As Nocentelli pointed out on the original FSB thread here, there are 2 types of videos:
a carefully produced one from PGS (where it's probably used to massively drive a nice tube amp)

and a more realistic one where the volume knob is set much lower

Human Gear Animato

A Bass/Guitar distortion pedal made famous by Christopher Wolstenholme of Muse.
For infos on this project check the original threads on DIY and FSB
(If you build it for bass you should add a blend circuit to improve the sound)

Mojo Hand Colossus Fuzz

Info about the original:

ALL HAIL THE COLOSSUS!!! Unleashed on an unsuspecting public, the Colossus is THE be all end all Russian/Civil War Muff style fuzz. Ridiculously tweakable, insanely versatile, and packed with 10 tons of Colossal Mojo. Rich harmonic drenched chords, sweet singing leads, sludgy stoner goodness, filthy bluesy mcnasties, Pumpkin flavored raunch…you name it, it does it. It features a 3 way toggle for different EQ voicings, as well as a full range “Mids” control to help you cut through the mix in a live setting.

Edit: Corrected 2 values. the 2.2nF cap in the tonestack (column k/rows f-h) should be 22nF, and the 5.6nF cap (column b/rows h-l) should be 56nF. This should fix some of the issues with the tone and output of the effect that has been reported.

EarthQuaker Devices Talons

Info about the original:
The Talons is an extremely versatile high gain overdrive that serves up the full range of gain from transparent boost to heavy saturation, and all points in between. Unlike all our other overdrives, the Talons was not designed to emulate any specific sound or era. The presence control gives you a wide range of top-end contour and the active 3 band EQ allows you to sculpt your tone to perfection. The Talons can be powered at the standard 9v for a warmer amp-like tone or at 18v for greater headroom, more volume and a brighter, stiffer grind.

Death By Audio Reverberation Machine

Info about the original:
The Reverberation Machine is a synthetic atmosphere creator. Use the effect on any instrument to add depth and simulate different environments. Experiment and combine a variety of settings to obtain the perfect ambiance for your sound.
The controls on this pedal are straightforward. Volume, Altitude, Reverb Blend and two distinct reverb flavors: Bright Sunshine and Dark Star. Altitude adjusts the gain structure of the reverb and the clean simultaneously creating exciting new reverberation soundscapes that span from subtle to wild.

Although the controls are extremely easy to use and intuitive, there is a vast array of sounds. Everything from simulations of vintage amp verb, playing in a cave, large concert halls, and space ships being sucked into wormholes.

UPDATE! Test values between 0 & 10K for R1 to improve Bright Sunshine side.

Liquid Mercury "Tap Tempo" Phaser

I know this layout size breaks the basic rules of this blog but we don't have many Tap Tempo projects and
this pedal (together with the Twin Peaks Tap Tremolo) sounds incredible.
I think they both would be a great addition to the website's library.

Catalinbread Galileo MKII

Here is a layout for the Catalinbread Galileo MKII, the new, updated version of the well known Galileo.

Info about the original:
The Galileo is a custom-tuned Rangemaster booster combined with the pre-amp section of a Vox AC30 delivering the distinctive throaty mid-range and jangly crunch of Brian May.
The Galileo has three controls tuned to deliver the essence of the Brian May sound - GAIN, TONE, and VOLUME.
With guitar volume knob turned full up, you’ll get the soaring lead tones and tight but aggressive rhythm tones of Brian May.
Turn your guitar volume knob down slightly and you’ll be tying your mother down all night.
Turn your guitar down further and you’ll get an amazing jangly clean sound that isn’t really clean but is!
In a full band context, this pedal will cut through with just the right frequencies to fit perfectly in the mix.

Red Witch Fuzz God II

12/12/2015 Layout updated!
Swapped 2n2 and 56p caps in the Treble Switch as suggested by Nocentelli.
Info from the original:

Fuzz God II - the insane silicon brother of Germanium Fuzz God.
It's wilder, it's crazier, it's the loose cannon sonic brother that you wouldn't introduce to your girlfriend, cause you know he'd try his luck with her.
Fuzz God II allows you to create fuzzyness of epic proportions (think red seas parting, burning bushes, pillars of salt etc).
From your classic fuzz tones of the sustaining, soulful, singing kind through to those of utter chaos - encompassing suboctave madness, parasitic sustain and out of control fax machine dial lunacy.
More useable. More interactive. More versatile

Thanks to Jondog for the schematic.

12K has been reported as the best value for R1.

Keeley PSI

Info about the original:
We set out to take a classic design with lots of history  and make it obviously something new.
We took the op-amp version of old PI and inverted one of the stages, brought out the midrange, tightened the bass, and most importantly, added a Germanium transistor output!
Yes, this is a opamp-transistor hybrid.  Don’t be miffed by op-amps in your pie folks, the germanium touch at the end makes everyone smile around the shop here.

Keeley Oxblood

Info about the original:
The Keeley Oxblood Overdrive is our response to everyone kloning pedals.
We wanted to build a new circuit that let players blend from perfectly clean to amp-crushing roar.
We wanted that impossibly huge and focused midrange that makes any guitar… Strat, Paul, Tele, sound incredible.  We knew we could do it our way and offer you more tone.
So we designed this pedal over the course of a few days to outdo the klones.

With the Keeley Oxblood Overdrive you roll off the Drive Control down and get a perfectly clean sound, you can dial in any amount of distortion and volume to stomp an amp into pure tonal nirvana.  The Keeley Oxblood Overdrive offers you two ways to clip and saturate your signal with overtones by selecting carefully chosen diodes.  Magical and Mythical, Monstrous and Most Satisfying they are indeed.

EarthQuaker Devices Bit Commander

Hi guys! Alex here and I'm very excited to join the tagboardeffects squad. Thanks to Mark and Miro for the opportunity, and thanks to Travis, Zach and Javi for joining along.
My first contribution to the main site is a great guitar synthesizer from EarthQuaker Devices.
I would like to thank Njokki for reverse-engineering his original pedal.

Info about the original:
The Bit Commander is a monophonic analog guitar synthesizer with four octaves of vintage square wave synth tones. Its no-nonsense interface makes it easy to add or subtract octaves to create a wide variety of sounds without having to dial in envelopes or oscillators. Ripping sub-octave thump, pulsing octave down, a lightly squared base tone and a swelling transformer based octave up all join together to make a single guitar sound like an army of olde tyme synths.

Aria Super Fuzz Sustainer

Pawel from turretboard.knucklehead.dk (aka sinner from FSB) has very kindly offered for us to post some of his layouts which no longer fit with the theme of his website, and so we're starting off with the Aria Super Fuzz Sustainer.

I can't find much in the way of marketing info so don't know what Aria had to say about it (any info gratefully received) but here is a short youtube video I found:

I'm sure everyone will join me in saying thanks to Pawel.

Selmer Buzztone

Here's one for Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd fans. This is the pedal Syd used on tracks like "Interstellar Overdrive". It's more like a buzzy overdrive than a typical fuzz pedal.

I will probably build this with .15" pitch stripboard but you can use .1" pitch as well. The bottom strip is for mounting the board on standoffs but if you're not using standoffs you can cut that row off.

This pedal is normally powered off a pair of AA batteries for the -3V. For daisy chaining you could use the inverter + regulator daughter board that Mark posted with his Maestro FZ-1 layout

Here's the layout with the requested switchable gain boost mod

the requested layout with inverter and regulator onboard. This is unverified
