Tagboardeffects Announcement

We've been posting tagboard and vero layouts for 5 years now and with myself and Miro being quiet for a while people have expressed some concern about where the site is going.  We have no intention of giving up on DIY but sometimes personal commitments take over and talking from a personal perspective a combination of a trapped nerve, a death in the family and a new job have taken a lot out of me.  It was impossible to concentrate like I needed to when I had the trapped nerve and by the time that had cleared up to the point I could, other things came up one after another to the point when the little bit of free time I got I just wanted to relax rather than spend hours squinting at schematics.

But we have built a great community here, something that is emphasised by a quick scan in the forum where some excellent topics are discussed and new circuits developed, with a continually enthusiastic audience.  So I think the site deserves a shot in the arm and something to get it moving again, maybe in different directions.

As such myself and Miro have spoken before about having more administrators and authors on the blog and it is with pleasure that we can now introduce Javi (JaviCAP), Zach (rocket88), Travis (Travis) :o), and Alex80 (Alex) as new administrators and authors.  All have been active members for a long time now and have helped make the blog and especially the forum a great place to be.

This isn't necessarily to just add new layouts to the blog because there really isn't as many to go at now we've posted over 800 layouts, but also potentially to move in other directions to appeal to a wider audience.  So posts about general DIY, tips and tricks, and other things that will be of interest to people can help liven the place up and give people some interesting opinions to read.  There can also never be too many people to answer questions! :o)

So we have increased the numbers by 4 at this stage, but there are a number of other people on the blog and forum who have been great members of the site and contributed massively, and to be honest I am happy to increase the admin numbers more if some other people think they have something they would like to contribute.  Be that vero, perf or maybe PCB layouts.  General DIY posts?  Or what about amps?  I'm happy for us to go in whatever direction the members here want, and I'm always available on email if anyone wants a chat about it.

At the end of the day I want us to provide something for everyone interested in DIY am sure that the guys we have asked will help us do that.

Solder on dudes! :o)

  1. Hi

First, a massive, galactic-scale thanks for all the work creating this fantastic resource :)

If you're interested I can contribute a reactive load schematic based on the Aiken Amps white paper. It's a good-quality circuit (if you use good components). Reactive load & convolution cab sim is the best solution I've found for low-volume practice. You keep the full character of the amp - any amp you like - pushing a realistic load and simply replace the speaker cone with a cab sim.

  3. I want to throw in my own personal thanks to you and Miro for all that you have done for this community. I have personally built around 50 circuits from this site and it has been one of the hobbies that inspired me into the field I am today... bio-robotics. I am glad to hear about the new administrators. Best of luck with your personal commitments and I hope you feel relieved from the fact that the community you have helped create is willing to lend helping hands to keep it all going.

    Great thanks from Purdue University,
    Dane

  4. I'm very new to this hobby, but I was thrilled when I found this site. I'm happy to hear that it will continue to grow and I can't thank all of you enough for the awesome work you've done here!!!

  5. I know I speak for everyone here when I say, Thank you for the layouts, knowledge, and patients. We miss you! I fully understand. I have the same problem, life won't let us just be the coolest M Fers in the world (we got sh!+ to do, most of it ain't no fun).
Seriously though, this site has helped so many of us. I'm looking forward to many late nights. Burning myself with my Weller, cussing at the crack of dawn, trying to figure out why it don't work, realizing "hey dumbass you missed something ", fixing it, then rocking the "F" out.

  6. Welcome to all of you and a huge thank you to |v|ark and Miro. I started building pedals with a GGG Red Llama kit, but everything else I've done has been from this site. I'm looking forward to seeing where this community goes.

  10. I think this is fantastic and look forward to the great things ahead. In saying that the work the Mark and Miro have done has pretty much changed the face of stompbox DIY so hats off to them for that and all the best with new jobs, families and nerve recoveries.

  11. The page that made me realize I can build these things on my own. Been reading it for allmost from the beginning. Keep up the good work and thanks for giving a door to a hobby that has got me learning a lot of music history also.

  12. Thank you so much for creating such an incredible community and site. It's been very inspiring to start building pedals myself, which at first I thought was something that only advanced DIY enthusiasts could do. But what I've learned is that even if you don't have any skill or experience in electronics, everything's possible with a little bit of help which you and all the great people in this community provide.
It would be nice to see more synth layouts, something a lot of people would be interested I believe.

  13. First things first : We (I) missed you a lot, but it's a f***ing good news that this awesome blog still lives !!!!! (did not believe or even supposed, but worried about YOU and your health)
If John K could publish some of his superb work, it would be, how to say.... Fabulous :D

  14. Hello,

I say a big congratulations to all for allowing access to the realization of these boxes that attract us to her as the lights attract butterflies.

For electronics uneducated like me you have made the impossible possible, it's just incredible,
was pleased to see that everything will continue.

I am even put (some) speak English thanks to you :)

  15. Congratulations Mark & Miro on this community you guys created. The fact that you can call up guys from the farm team to take seats at the adult's table (sorry for the mixed metaphor) is pretty damn cool. Welcome to the new admins. Best of luck to all of you

  28. Anyone find this suspicious? No sighting of Mark or Miro for months. Then suddenly we are offered a new ruling group. And a group containing the Dark OverLord of the Germanium DeathStar. Hmmmm. I thinks I smell a coup. Anyone verify the source of these news updates.

    1. :)

No coup. I personally wasn't planning on being this absent for so long, but i must admit i've had some serious time management issues. And still do. I've took two months off from my factory pedals blog too and i see no chance of it having 11/13 posts a month in the future.

Main issue has been the incoming schematics. Most newly traced have been more or less slightly modified *add your classic here*, so the interest to draw one up has not been as high as before.

Neither of us have any plans abandoning the site. No. But since either of us obviously can't be as active as before, we thought we need new contributors. I have no idea who you are referring to, but the new folk as co-pilots are ones who have been very helpful and are the ones we do trust.

If i ever recover from my time management issues, i will be drawing more.

    3. Hey guys. Sorry I think you've taken my comments too seriously. I was just joking and taking a friendly dig at Rockett. What I think you've done is brilliant. Rockett is great, I try to read all his posts. And Alex is just a freak of nature with the circuits he has laid out. Makes my brain hurt just looking at those layouts. I thank you for all your amazing work over the years, and look forward to seeing what the new mods have in store for all of us.

    4. lol, Dark Overlord of the Germanium Deathstar checking in. i don't think your comment was taken seriously, i think it's the lack of ability to convey tone through text. side not, i didn't realize i've become a Dark Overloard, i thought i was simply the Emperor, which it's all mark & miro's fault for getting me into Germanium.

but anyways, we all have time management issues, and i'm probably just as bad as you miro. been slowly getting my shit back together, but not falling asleep until 3am and getting up around 7am isn't helping.

  29. Really glad to hear you are OK mate. Just to echo the sentiments above, I've built a great many of your layouts and learned plenty about vero builds. You probably realise that your little blog is incredibly popular, great that you can keep it going. Hope everything works out for you.

  37. I also want to throw in my thanks. As a guy who has been working and repairing tube amps for a lot of years, this was a great bit of fun building effects. Your hard work IS appreciated and I want to say THANKS. Mike.

  38. I can't thank all you guys enough for what you do, and I'm glad you're taking steps to ensure the knowledge base continues to expand. So many stompboxes...so little time! My newly created delay pedal sits nestled on my workbench, all thanks to you! As we say where I'm from, "Strong work!"

  39. I started looking for some information sites in order to mod my own pedals. Since I discovered this site, I really can´t get enough of this. Special thanks to Rocket88 for his help and patient at the forum.

  40. This is awesome guys, keep it up. If anything this site is encouraging companies to stop making tubescreamer clones and to come up with revolutionary, "un-clonable" pedals (e.g. like chase bliss audio)!

  41. Is it too late to join the welcoming committee? :D

  42. I realize that this post is now another five years old but serious thanks to everyone who has been involved in putting this whole blog together, it is the absolute greatest resource of information I've found and the community is fantastic. If I could make one recommendation as a member to help make things become more general it would be adding some synth, drum machine, and sequencer type layouts next. I've come across a vero layout to build a TR-808, the Korg Monotron schematic is out there and could be converted to vero, and numerous synthesizer modules. There's still a lot of ground that could be covered making layouts for things like that and it could all exist on the site under a Synth effect type.
